Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the US to present his “victory plan” to end the war with Russia to President Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Donald Trump. Zelenskyy urged his partners to work towards achieving a “shared victory for a truly just peace.” As part of his visit, he visited a Pennsylvania ammunition factory that is producing much-needed munitions for Ukraine and called for continued support from the US. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy indicated ongoing negotiations with the White House to allow Ukraine to use Storm Shadow missiles inside Russia. Lammy emphasized the need for “nerve and guts” during this critical time.
In addition, fake news websites registered in the UK are allegedly spreading disinformation about western companies operating in Ukraine, prompting calls for changes to the law to reveal ownership of these websites. Meanwhile, Russia launched new strikes in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, hitting high-rise apartment buildings and leaving at least 21 wounded. In a tragic incident, a firefighter was killed by a Ukrainian drone in the Russia-controlled Luhansk region, with two others injured.
Zelenskyy’s visit comes amid intense fighting in eastern Ukraine, with Kyiv pressing for the use of long-range weapons to strike deep inside Russia. The Ukrainian president’s visit to the US aims to garner support for his peace plan and strengthen ties with Western allies in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
