Former UAB player Austin Watkins has returned to Birmingham with a winning mentality as a wide receiver for the Birmingham Stallions. Watkins credits his former coach Bill Clark for instilling in him the “Coach Clark mentality” of working hard. After a successful college career at UAB, Watkins briefly played in the NFL before joining the USFL and then the UFL.
Watkins is excited to be back in Birmingham and is aiming for another championship with the Stallions in the 2025 spring season. Despite his time in the NFL, Watkins believes that the UFL offers a platform for talented players to showcase their skills without the obstacles of draft picks and roster limits that exist in the NFL.
With a successful preseason performance in 2023 and the guidance of a strong coaching staff, Watkins is optimistic about the Stallions’ chances in the upcoming season. He views his time in the NFL as a learning experience that has made him more mature and better prepared for success on the field.
Watkins’ determination to prove himself in the NFL has brought him back to Birmingham, where he hopes to help lead the Stallions to another championship. As he continues to work hard and improve his skills, Watkins remains focused on achieving his goals and making a lasting impact on the field.
