South Korea’s defense ministry has estimated that 12,000 North Korean troops will be sent to Russia to support the country in its conflict with Ukraine. The United States has confirmed this development and warned that any troops deployed against Ukraine will be considered “fair game.” The North Korean contingent is expected to include special forces, military engineers, and artillery troops, with 3,000 already deployed. The U.S. believes that at least 3,000 North Korean soldiers have already arrived in eastern Russia by sea and are receiving training at Russian military bases. The National Security Council spokesperson warned that these soldiers will be considered legitimate targets by the Ukrainian military if they engage in combat. Both South Korea and the United States are closely monitoring the situation and have vowed to take action in response to this significant provocation.
