Local Brewery Faces Closure Due to Presidential Visit
TUSCALOOSA, AL – Druid City Brewing Co. owner Bo Hicks is appealing for community support ahead of a planned presidential visit, which he says will effectively shut down his business. Hicks announced on social media that the Tuscaloosa police informed him about road closures on Hackberry Lane and 15th Street from 4 p.m. until an unspecified time, leaving his brewery, located on 14th Street, inaccessible.
In his post, Hicks expressed his concerns about the financial impact, particularly as the closures coincided with the busy night before graduation. “As all small businesses know, we are cash flow-based, and being told we cannot open is a significant hardship,” he said. He encouraged locals to visit the brewery for takeaway items like crowlers or gift certificates to help weather the storm.
Assuring that his employees would be compensated for the day, Hicks emphasized his commitment to the community, stating, “I try to put good out in our community, and our community has always been there for us.” He urged supporters to spread the word about the situation.
The disruptions stem from President Donald Trump’s upcoming commencement address at the University of Alabama. The announcement, made last week, confirmed that the former president would be accompanied by notable guest, former Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban. The event is scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
Attempts to reach the Tuscaloosa police for further details were unsuccessful. As the community rallies to support local businesses like Druid City Brewing, many hope to minimize the economic fallout from this unprecedented situation.
