Trump’s lawyers claim his business associates were ‘pleased’ in recent filings for New York civil fraud appeal

Lawyers for former President Donald Trump filed two briefs with the Appellate Division First Department in New York, arguing against the civil fraud case brought against him earlier this year. They claimed that there were no victims, the case was flawed, and that it had passed the statute of limitations. Trump’s attorneys also argued that his business partners benefited from the transactions and that the court’s valuation of his properties was inaccurate. They disputed the court’s findings that Trump and his family engaged in a scheme to inflate his assets in financial statements.

On the other hand, New York state lawyers urged the appeals court to uphold the nearly $500 million fine imposed on Trump, stating that there was overwhelming evidence of fraud and illegality on a large scale. They criticized Trump’s appeal as full of meritless legal arguments that ignored trial evidence.

Additionally, Trump’s attorneys filed a separate brief regarding sanctions imposed on the trial attorneys, arguing that they were imposed unfairly for legal arguments made in good faith. They maintained that it was appropriate for attorneys to make arguments that a trial judge might disagree with in order to preserve them for appellate review.

The oral arguments before the Appellate Court are scheduled to commence on Sept. 26. This case is part of a lengthy appeals process that began after a judge’s ruling against Trump and his family’s alleged fraudulent activities.
