WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — In a recent interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” President Donald Trump expressed uncertainty regarding the application of due process rights to both U.S. citizens and noncitizens alike. When pressed by host Kristen Welker, Trump stated, “I don’t know. I’m not a lawyer,” highlighting criticism from the left over his administration’s approach to immigration, particularly in light of controversial deportation cases.
The interview, which took place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, also touched on his ambition to make Canada the "51st state." While previously forceful in this rhetoric, Trump indicated that military action would be “highly unlikely” for this to happen. He signaled, however, a more assertive stance regarding Greenland, suggesting that its acquisition is crucial for national security.
Addressing economic concerns, Trump characterized the U.S. economy as undergoing a "transition period," downplaying recession predictions from Wall Street analysts. He attributed economic woes to “the Biden economy,” despite announcing a decline in GDP.
Regarding his political future, Trump acknowledged the support he has received for a potential third presidential run, although he quickly downplayed any immediate intentions. He asserted his focus is on completing a successful term and passing the baton to another Republican leader. Positioning his “Make America Great Again” movement as robust, he commended current leaders like JD Vance and Marco Rubio.
As the interview concluded, Trump reiterated confidence in his agenda and the Republican Party, stating, “I think we have a tremendous party. And you know what I can’t name? I can’t name one Democrat.”
