Trump and Biden Teams Collaborate for Smooth Transition Amid Global Turmoil
WASHINGTON – As Donald Trump prepares to assume the presidency again on January 20, 2025, he frequently critiques Joe Biden’s foreign policy as weak. Yet, in an ironic twist, the incoming national security team seems committed to cooperating with Biden’s administration amidst global crises in Gaza, Syria, and Ukraine.
Jake Sullivan, Biden’s national security adviser, emphasized the importance of a seamless transition, stating that both teams recognize their duty to the American people and are dedicated to making a smooth handoff. Despite Trump’s critiques, his transition team acknowledges the Biden administration’s consideration in briefing them on national security matters. "For our adversaries out there that think this is a time of opportunity … they’re wrong," expressed Mike Waltz, Trump’s choice for national security adviser.
Trump has placed blame for international conflicts firmly on Biden’s shoulders. He has argued that Biden’s policies have emboldened adversaries, particularly in Gaza and Ukraine. However, Trump’s team has, notably, communicated with Biden’s officials regarding sensitive matters, including recent discussions about a ceasefire in Gaza.
The two administrations reportedly aligned on several issues, including the necessity of not deploying U.S. ground troops in Syria. Sullivan highlighted that Trump’s recent social media comments echoed Biden’s stance on the conflict in Ukraine, suggesting potential agreement on various foreign policies.
Additionally, Biden’s administration is preparing a national security memorandum aimed at assisting Trump’s team in confronting rising tensions with adversaries, which reflects a commitment to bipartisan cooperation despite existing political tensions. This transition is shaping up to be the most coordinated since 2009, marking a stark contrast to previous transfers of power.
