Truck Driver Deliberately Dumps Aviation Fuel in Moundville, Hazardous Situation Created
The Moundville Police Department has reported that a truck driver, identified as Alphonso Terry Jr., deliberately dumped up to 2,000 gallons of aviation fuel along a five-mile stretch of road in Moundville, Alabama. The incident, which occurred on Thursday morning, prompted an emergency response from local and state environmental teams.
Terry bypassed safety mechanisms and released the fuel along several roads to avoid a required disposal trip to Meridian, Mississippi. After a citizen reported the leaking tanker, Police Chief Toby Banks located and stopped the truck before further damage could occur. Emergency crews, including Hale County EMA and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, worked to contain the spill and prevent contamination of waterways.
Terry has been charged with multiple counts of Reckless Endangerment and First-Degree Criminal Mischief, with additional charges pending. Residents along the affected route are urged to report any hazardous conditions or property damage to the Moundville Police Department.
Authorities are currently investigating the full environmental impact of the spill and working to ensure the safety of the community. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper disposal of hazardous materials to protect the environment and public health.
