Tropical Storm Milton formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane, potentially bringing life-threatening conditions to Florida next week. Maximum sustained winds are currently at 40 mph with higher gusts, and hurricane and storm surge watches may be required for certain regions of the state. Heavy rainfall is expected to impact portions of Florida on Sunday and Monday, increasing the risk of flooding. Pinellas County is making sandbags available to residents in preparation for the storm. The system may also produce rainfall in the northern Yucatán Peninsula and western Cuba. The National Hurricane Center is advising those in these areas, as well as in the Florida Peninsula, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas, to closely monitor the storm for potential impacts.
