Multiple tornadoes swept through Alabama late Saturday, resulting in at least three reported deaths in central Alabama. The storms caused widespread damage in 52 of the state’s 67 counties, with reports of downed trees and power lines blocking roads. Elsewhere in the Southeast, violent tornadoes, high winds, and dust storms left at least 35 people dead, with Missouri, Mississippi, and Arkansas among the hardest-hit states. In Missouri, tornadoes killed at least 12 people and left homes destroyed. In Mississippi, six people died and three were reported missing, while in Arkansas, officials confirmed three deaths.
Dust storms caused further devastation in Kansas and Texas, leading to almost a dozen deaths, including eight in a Kansas highway pileup and three in Amarillo, Texas. Oklahoma also faced wildfires as a result of the weather system, with over 130 fires reported and nearly 300 homes damaged or destroyed.
