Butcher’s Son Crowned Best Burger in New York State
Corning, NY – Butcher’s Son has officially claimed the title of Best Burger in New York State with its acclaimed Ghost Burger, a highlight of the 2025 Best NY Burger Competition organized by the New York Beef Council. Owner Cameron Matthews expressed his astonishment upon hearing the news, saying, "We were excited just to be part of the top 10. To win it was amazing. We’re super grateful for our customers’ support."
The award was presented to Matthews during the New York Beef Council’s Beef Month Proclamation event at the New York State Capitol in Albany on May 12. The Ghost Burger features two grass-fed beef patties topped with candied jalapeños, jalapeño basil pickles, provolone cheese, and a signature BBQ sauce, achieving high marks for taste and presentation. The Beef Council praised it for its "perfect balance of sweet heat, savory depth, and high-quality New York beef."
Sourced from Fieldstone Acres in nearby Campbell, the locally sourced beef is central to the flavor profile of the Ghost Burger. Matthews attributes the burger’s success to its unique flavor combinations. The competition evaluated burgers through public nominations and anonymous judges, who scored the Ghost Burger with a remarkable 99.24 percent.
Since opening in 2020, Butcher’s Son has steadily grown, and Matthews anticipates an increase in customer interest following the award. Plans for future enhancements, including patio upgrades, are underway to improve the dining experience. The Beef Council noted that each finalist exemplified the diversity and culinary pride of New York’s vibrant beef scene.
Other notable finalists included R&M, also located on Market Street in Corning, which previously won the competition in 2016. The competition celebrates the enduring love for burgers in America, showcasing the best from across the state.
