The Critical Communications Review – Intrado’s AI-Powered Voice Translation and Transcription Enhances 9-1-1 Response Times

Press Release
Intrado Launches AI-Powered Translation for Enhanced Emergency Response
July 23, 2025

Intrado Life & Safety, Inc., a leader in 9-1-1 communications technology, has unveiled a groundbreaking AI-powered Voice-to-Text (VTT) translation and transcription solution at the APCO 2025 conference, running from July 27-30. This innovative technology allows public safety answering points (PSAPs) to communicate seamlessly with callers in over 40 languages, enhancing emergency response for diverse communities across the United States and Canada.

Intrado’s VTT technology is compatible with both legacy and Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) frameworks, ensuring that all PSAPs utilizing Intrado’s systems can facilitate effective communication with emergency callers. The technology provides telecommunicators with live transcripts translated into the caller’s and operator’s native languages, delivering immediate audio translation that minimizes delays and quickens response times.

“Our near real-time translation and transcription capabilities leverage advancements in AI and natural language processing, directly integrating into telecommunicator workflows,” said Brian Davenport, Chief Strategy Officer at Intrado. This integration allows for swift responses to non-English speakers without the need for additional applications or interpreters.

By automating language detection and translation, Intrado’s solution reduces the pressure on those in emergency situations who may need to communicate in a language they are less familiar with. This improvement not only enhances the efficiency of call transfers for 9-1-1 telecommunicators but also bolsters the precision and reliability of emergency responses.

Andrew Knapp, Director for Hamilton County Emergency Communications, emphasized the importance of this technology, stating, “We look forward to the opportunities Intrado’s translation technology offers to enhance how we serve our community and support the well-being of our PSAP staff.”
