The Corvette ‘Godfather’ Retires, Discussing EVs, Spinoffs, and a Performance SUV

After 47 years with General Motors, Tadge Juechter, known as the “godfather” of the modern Corvette, retired following the introduction of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the most powerful version of the car ever produced. GM President Mark Reuss thanked Juechter for his contributions to making Corvette the iconic American sports car that it is today. Juechter has worked on multiple generations of the Corvette and his favorite purchase was a 2006 Corvette Z06.

The future of the Corvette brand includes plans for an all-electric version, building on the success of the E-Ray hybrid. While there has been pushback from fans regarding electrified Corvettes, Juechter believes in the efficiency and performance benefits of electrification. Despite calls from analysts to spin off Corvette as a sub-brand or consider an SUV, Juechter believes Corvette should remain at the heart of Chevrolet. However, he remains open to leveraging the brand for future products such as an SUV, though no concrete plans have been confirmed.

Juechter’s retirement plans include driving an eighth-generation Corvette Stingray convertible, which he purchased as a “retirement car” after selling his special 2006 Z06. Despite a long and successful career at GM, Juechter remains passionate about the Corvette brand and its future, especially as it navigates the challenges and opportunities presented by advancements in technology and changing consumer preferences.
