Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen has announced a new partnership with Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson to cross-check voter files in an effort to ensure election integrity. Texas is now the eighth partner state of Alabama’s Voter Integrity Database (AVID), joining Arkansas, Louisiana, and Kentucky. Through Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), the states will compare voter files to identify individuals registered to vote in both states and initiate the voter removal process if necessary.
Allen emphasized the importance of regular voter file maintenance in maintaining election integrity and expressed pride in this partnership with Texas. Since the implementation of AVID in September 2023, nearly 40,000 potentially ineligible voters have been identified and removed through the state-to-state MOU component.
Allen thanked his staff and the Texas Secretary of State’s office for their hard work in executing this MOU, stating that it represents a significant step in Alabama’s efforts to improve voter file maintenance. The MOU details can be accessed for further information.
This collaboration between Alabama and Texas reflects a commitment to upholding the integrity of elections and ensuring that only eligible voters are registered. With partnerships like AVID and efforts to cross-check voter files, both states are taking proactive steps to safeguard the electoral process and maintain public trust in the voting system.
