Teen from Wisconsin, sought in connection with mother and stepfather’s deaths, discovered 800 miles away with a firearm

A 17-year-old Wisconsin teenager was arrested in Iowa, more than 800 miles away from his home where his mother and stepfather were found slain. The teen was stopped for running a stop sign in WaKeeney, Iowa, and was identified as a person of interest in the double homicide of his mother and stepfather. The victims were identified as Donald Mayer and his wife, Tatiana Casap, who met online when she was living in Moldova. The teenager has been charged with taking his stepfather’s vehicle and a firearm. His perfect attendance at school suddenly stopped, prompting a welfare check which led to the discovery of the crime. The teenager was seen driving his stepfather’s vehicle, accompanied by the family’s dog, and cellphone records showed his journey through several states. A Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum, owned by Mayer, was missing from the crime scene but was later found in the vehicle, along with spent shell casings and the victims’ driver’s licenses. The teenager and his stepfather enjoyed working outside together, with the latter having a passion for flowers and trees. Authorities are still investigating the motives behind the tragic incident, while family and community members express shock over the seemingly normal behavior of the teenager before the incident.
