Sweetser Critiques Trump Administration’s Collection of Americans’ Data

Title: Alabama Senate Candidate Kyle Sweetser Criticizes Trump Administration’s Data Surveillance Efforts

In a bold move, Kyle Sweetser, an Alabama native and lifelong Republican now running as a Democrat for Tommy Tuberville’s U.S. Senate seat, has publicly condemned the Trump administration for its collaboration with Palantir Technologies in developing a comprehensive database of American citizens’ information. In a recent video posted on his X account, Sweetser emphasized that this initiative jeopardizes individual freedoms, stating, "America, our freedom is in danger.”

The partnership with Palantir, a controversial data analysis firm founded by billionaire Peter Thiel, is part of Trump’s executive order aiming for inter-agency data sharing. Reports from the New York Times reveal that Palantir has secured over $113 million in federal contracts under Trump, including new agreements with the Department of Homeland Security and the Pentagon, raising alarms about expanded government surveillance.

Sweetser’s concerns extend beyond data collection, highlighting potential misuse by the Trump administration to target political dissenters and immigrants. He criticized the recent agreement allowing the Department of Homeland Security access to IRS taxpayer data, warning it could pave the way for unjust deportations.

Echoing Sweetser, U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin questioned the necessity of such a vast database, asserting it could lead to political retaliation rather than eliminating fraud. Advocacy groups, including Democracy Forward and the Electronic Privacy Information Center, are also contesting the administration’s data access moves in court.

Sweetser concluded his statements with a commitment to protect individual rights, asserting, “I will fight for everyone’s rights and I won’t sell out.” He believes most Alabamians share a desire for privacy from governmental overreach, emphasizing that the growing surveillance represents a slippery slope for personal freedoms.
