A massive manhunt is underway for Vance Boelter, the suspect in two politically motivated shootings that resulted in the deaths of Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and left State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, injured. Authorities have pieced together a profile of the 57-year-old suspect, who allegedly impersonated law enforcement to access the lawmakers’ homes. Photos show him appearing at a victim’s door while dressed in a long-sleeve shirt and a bulletproof vest.
Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson described Boelter as 6’1″ with brown hair, wearing a cowboy hat and dark shirt, and warned the public that he is “armed and dangerous.” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz stated the shootings were politically motivated and urged citizens to remain vigilant. An emergency alert has been issued in Sibley County after Boelter’s vehicle and hat were found in the area.
Boelter is married with five children and has a background in agriculture, having worked in the Democratic Republic of Congo to partner with farmers and fishermen. He has also delivered church sermons and has previously been involved in sharing his faith publicly.
In a concerning last message to a roommate, Boelter expressed remorse and hinted at a tragic outcome, saying, “I may be dead shortly.” His roommate described him as a loving and caring individual, expressing disbelief over the events.
As authorities continue to investigate, the FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Boelter’s capture, urging anyone who spots him to call 911 immediately.
