A suspect has been arrested in connection with the killings of Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, who were attacked while hiking with their daughters at Arkansas’s Devil’s Den State Park. James Andrew McGann, 28, of Springdale, was taken into custody at a barber shop following a manhunt that lasted several days. He faces two counts of capital murder, as confirmed by the Arkansas State Police.
The incident occurred Saturday afternoon, during which the couple was attacked in front of their daughters, aged 7 and 9, who were unharmed and are now safe with relatives. Authorities did not disclose a motive or specific details regarding the nature of the attack. Colonel Mike Hagar, the state police director, praised law enforcement efforts that led to McGann’s capture, emphasizing the relief brought to the victims’ family and the community.
McGann had recently relocated to Arkansas from Oklahoma and secured a job at a local school. The police had previously released a sketch of a suspect and sought public assistance, identifying a black sedan with a partially covered license plate as associated with the incident. The family’s statement highlighted the Brinks’ heroism in protecting their daughters during the tragedy.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressed the community’s grief over the “senseless and horrific crime,” urging residents to pray for the victims’ family. As the investigation continues, law enforcement is focused on ensuring a conviction. No information is currently available about McGann’s legal representation or family connections.
