Sunday’s NFL Scouting Combine: How Did Players from the State Fare?

Alabama A&M’s offensive tackle Carson Vinson is looking to break the drought of HBCU players being selected in the NFL Draft. Vinson has been gaining attention after his performance at the recent Reese’s Senior Bowl, where he played left tackle for the winning team.

Vinson is currently at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, along with other top offensive line prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft. During the combine, Vinson impressed with a podium finish in the three-cone drill, showcasing his ability to change directions with a time of 7.51 seconds, which ranked third among offensive linemen.

Other players with Alabama football roots also participated in the combine, including Alabama guard Tyler Booker and Jacksonville State guard Clay Webb. However, Ohio State center Seth McLaughlin, who also has ties to Alabama, was unable to take part due to a torn Achilles tendon.

Vinson and the other players will have the opportunity to showcase their strength in the bench press on Monday, where they will lift a 225-pound weight bar for as many repetitions as possible.

Vinson’s impressive performance at the combine has caught the attention of NFL scouts, and he is now considered a top prospect for the 2025 NFL Draft. The draft is scheduled to take place from April 24-27 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Vinson’s journey from the HBCU ranks to the NFL has the football community eagerly anticipating his future success.
