Florida is facing the threat of Tropical Storm Helene, which is expected to become a hurricane late tomorrow. The National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane warning for Florida’s west coast and a hurricane watch for a stretch of coastline further south. In addition, a storm surge warning has been issued for almost the entirety of Florida’s west coast, including Tampa Bay and Charlotte Harbor. The storm surge could reach between 10 and 15 feet in some areas. A tropical storm warning is also in effect for various parts of Florida, including the Keys.
In Cancun, Mexico, some visitors were still on the beach despite warnings of Helene approaching Mexico’s Caribbean coast. Meanwhile, NBC News meteorologist Angie Lassman has forecasted that Helene could potentially hit Florida as a Category 3 hurricane. Residents are being urged to complete preparations to protect life and property as the storm approaches. With warnings and watches expanded overnight, Florida is bracing for the impact of Tropical Storm Helene and taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
