A teacher at Buckhorn Middle School in Madison County was arrested by detectives from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on charges of assaulting a special needs student. The arrest followed a complaint from school administrators on Nov. 19, prompting an investigation. The teacher, Karen Howard, 60, was suspended by the school pending further investigation and has since been charged with one count of torture/willful abuse of a child. Howard posted a $5,000 bond shortly after being booked. Sheriff Kevin Turner emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and commended the school administration for their cooperation and swift action.
