Soldier from U.S. Army accused of deceit for denying connection to group devoted to toppling government

Kai Liam Nix, a 20-year-old U.S. Army soldier, was indicted on federal charges for lying about his connection to a group dedicated to overthrowing the government. He was arrested and charged with making false statements to the government and unlawful firearms trafficking. The indictment alleges that Nix was a member of a violent group, but he denied it on his security clearance application. Nix is also accused of dealing firearms without a license and possessing and selling stolen firearms. Nix, who went by the name Kia Brazelton, was an infantryman in the Army since Aug. 2022 with no deployments, and he recently left the Army as a private. He had his first court appearance on Monday and faces a maximum of 30 years in prison if convicted. Nix’s attorney did not respond to a request for comment. He was stationed at Fort Liberty in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
