A traffic stop in east Alabama resulted in the largest seizure of fentanyl in Etowah County, with more than two pounds of the deadly substance being confiscated. According to Sheriff Jonathan Horton, this amount was enough to potentially kill every resident in the county. Tostig Denard Moore, a 40-year-old man from Attalla, was charged with drug trafficking and is being held on a $1 million cash bond. Moore has a history of criminal activity, including a previous armed robbery conviction and charges of trafficking methamphetamine.
The traffic stop was carried out by the sheriff’s Active Criminal Enforcement Unit, with K-9 “TEDI” alerting deputies to the presence of illegal narcotics in Moore’s vehicle. The fentanyl was discovered in the back seat, packaged with a Louis Vuitton monogram. Sheriff Horton emphasized the deadly nature of fentanyl, noting that it is often laced with other drugs like marijuana, pills, meth, and heroin, leading to a high number of overdose deaths in the county.
The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, along with other law enforcement agencies, took over the investigation to prevent the fentanyl from reaching its intended destination and potentially causing more harm. Sheriff Horton commended the effort to remove such a large quantity of drugs from the streets, potentially saving numerous lives.
