Severe Weather Alert: Storms, Rain, and a Low Tornado Risk in Alabama Today

Severe Weather Threat Looms Over Alabama This Weekend

Forecasters are warning that Alabama may face another round of isolated severe storms on Sunday, with the potential for damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall across the region. The National Weather Service has issued a Level 1 out of 5 severe weather risk, indicating a marginal chance of severe storms for all of South Alabama and parts of Central Alabama.

As residents brace for inclement weather, the National Weather Service is particularly concerned about flooding, prompting the issuance of flood watches for several counties in Central and South Alabama. Areas marked in green on weather advisories are currently under flood watch, while counties highlighted in red had flash flood warnings which are expected to expire later today.

A prolonged soggy weather pattern could bring an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain through Wednesday, contributing to the already significant rainfall recorded over the weekend. Weather estimates show substantial accumulation from 7 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Sunday, further raising flood concerns.

Rain and thunderstorms are likely throughout the day, with stronger storm activity expected in the afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center forecasts similar weather risks for Monday, with a Level 1 severe weather risk extending across parts of North, East, and Central Alabama.

While rain is predicted to persist into Tuesday, a shift to drier conditions is anticipated starting Wednesday, offering some relief from the persistent wet weather experienced by the state. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions as the storm system develops.

For latest updates, keep checking local weather advisories and stay safe.
