Severe storm causes mudslides, evacuations, and warnings in Los Angeles.

A winter downpour in Los Angeles led to mudslides over Mulholland Drive, prompting evacuations in areas affected by recent wildfires. The heavy rain also triggered a flash flood warning for the Palisades Fire burn scar. Despite the cancellation of flood warnings, residents were cautioned about potential mud and rockslides even after the rain had ceased. Evacuation orders were in place for the Pacific Palisades area and near the Eaton Fire burn scar. One dramatic incident involved an SUV being swept into the ocean by a mud and water flow in Malibu, with the driver escaping with minor injuries. In Orange County, mandatory evacuations were issued in anticipation of mudslides in certain areas, while others were told to be prepared to leave if necessary. Ventura County also issued an evacuation warning for those near the Mountain Fire burn scar. Overall, 32 million people in California were under flood watches, with rainfall expected to range from 1 to 3 inches in lower areas and up to 6 to 10 inches in higher terrain. Despite the challenges presented by the severe weather, all flood warnings were eventually lifted as the storm moved out of the region.
