Alabama Tops SEC in Football Donations for FY 2024
In a recent analysis of financial reports submitted to the NCAA, Alabama emerged as the leader among public SEC football programs in relying on donations, with 38.2% of its revenue for Fiscal Year 2024 (July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024) sourced from contributions. This significant support helped the Crimson Tide ascend from third place in FY 2023 when donations constituted 33% of their revenue.
Tennessee followed closely, relying on donations for 35.7% of its football revenue, while Auburn ranked eighth among the 15 public SEC schools with 29.9% of its income stemming from contributions. Notably, Auburn also saw an increase from 25.7% in FY 2023.
Several schools reported no specific football donations; Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Arkansas were among them. Missouri had the lowest reliance on contributions, at only 10.9%.
When examining overall athletic department revenue, Alabama ranked sixth in total contributions, accounting for 32.1%. Georgia led this category, with 41.9% of its revenue coming from donations, followed by Texas at 40.3%.
In terms of actual dollars, Alabama reported $53.5 million in football-specific donations, positioning it second, just behind Texas, which accrued $63.3 million. Tennessee was close behind, with $53.2 million. Auburn brought in $36.2 million, placing seventh in the SEC.
In total contributions across all sports, Texas dominated the field with $133.9 million, surpassing even Mississippi State’s total athletics revenue of $127.2 million. Alabama rounded out the top five with $75.3 million, a notable increase from the previous fiscal year. Conversely, Arkansas reported the lowest overall donations at $29.2 million.
These figures highlight the financial disparities within the SEC, showcasing the importance of donor support in maintaining competitive athletic programs.
