A manhunt is underway for suspect Joseph A. Couch, who is believed to be responsible for a mass shooting on Interstate 75 in Kentucky that seriously injured five people. Couch is described as armed and dangerous and is believed to have acted alone in the shooting. He was upgraded to a suspect after his silver Toyota SUV was found near the scene, along with an AR-15 rifle believed to have been used in the shooting. The weapon was purchased legally on the day of the attack.
Authorities are searching for Couch in remote woodlands near the shooting location, with a counter-sniper team monitoring the area. The search has been challenging due to rugged terrain in the area. The shooter, described as having acted in a “sniper-like” manner, fired as many as 30 rounds at passing vehicles, injuring five individuals. All victims are Kentucky residents, though none are from London or Laurel County.
Officials are still determining the motive behind the attack and are investigating any potential contributing factors. Despite the discovery of the rifle, authorities believe the suspect may be armed based on information from outside sources. Efforts to locate Couch are ongoing, with law enforcement officials urging him to surrender peacefully to prevent further harm. The search was conducted by around 50 to 60 officers initially, with a specialized group continuing the search into the following day. The suspect’s whereabouts remain unknown as authorities work to ensure the safety of the community while searching for Couch.
