Russia and China commence joint naval exercises

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused the United States of provoking an arms race and emphasized the need for Russia to be prepared for any development. In response to these tensions, Russia has launched joint navy drills with China in the Sea of Japan as part of the larger ‘Ocean-2024’ exercise. This exercise includes naval drills spanning various oceans and seas, with the goal of checking combat readiness.

Putin addressed military personnel participating in the drills, highlighting the importance of strengthening military cooperation with friendly states amidst growing geopolitical tensions. He criticized the US for increasing military presence near Russia’s borders, in the Arctic, and in the Asia-Pacific region under the guise of countering Russian and Chinese threats.

The naval exercises, expected to last until September 16, are said to be the largest of their kind in three decades. The drills involve over 90,000 troops, more than 400 warships, submarines, and support vessels, as well as 120 aircraft and helicopters. Putin’s statements come as a clear indication of Russia’s readiness to respond to any perceived threats and maintain its military capabilities in the face of international tensions.
