Seattle Seahawks Draft Alabama Tight End Robbie Ouzts: Mustache Included
In a surprising twist during the NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks selected Alabama tight end Robbie Ouzts in the fifth round, also emphasizing his distinctive mustache as a key part of the decision. “Don’t shave the mustache. That just stays,” said Aaron Hineline, the Seahawks’ director of college scouting, making it clear that Ouzts’ facial hair was integral to his new role in Seattle.
Ouzts gained media attention during the NFL Scouting Combine, where he showcased impressive stats, running a 4.91-second 40-yard dash and measuring 6-foot-3 and 274 pounds. Despite having only 16 receptions for 192 yards over four seasons at Alabama, the Seahawks were keen on adding Ouzts, introducing him as a fullback rather than a tight end. Seattle’s general manager, John Schneider, noted, “We added a 275-pound fullback that runs 19 miles an hour—a lot of momentum heading downhill.”
Although Ouzts admitted he hadn’t played fullback since his sophomore year, he is optimistic about the transition, stating that his experience as an H-back has prepared him for blocking duties in his new position. Coach Mike Macdonald mentioned that the Seahawks aim to utilize the fullback position more in the 2025 season, a stark contrast to last year when fullbacks accounted for only 1.1 percent of offensive snaps.
The addition of Ouzts, alongside Alabama teammate and quarterback Jalen Milroe, marks a notable boost in the roster’s Crimson Tide influence. Ouzts expressed excitement about joining forces with Milroe, emphasizing their existing chemistry and commitment to their new roles in Seattle’s evolving offense.
As the Seahawks gear up for the new season, this duo aims to reinforce a more physical ground game, aligning with the team’s strategic focus for 2025.
