Severe Thunderstorm Alert Issued for Local Counties
The National Weather Service has issued a weather alert for strong thunderstorms affecting Conecuh, Butler, Escambia, and Covington counties, effective until 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Doppler radar detected a line of thunderstorms moving southeast at 25 mph, posing risks of wind gusts up to 40 mph and possible pea-sized hail.
Communities such as Brewton, Evergreen, and River Falls are advised to prepare for winds that could down tree limbs and cause minor damage. The severe weather may also lead to localized flooding, and residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid driving through flooded areas. Additionally, lightning poses a significant threat, with strikes occurring as far as 10 miles from a storm’s center.
