SunFed, an Arizona produce company, is recalling all sizes of its whole, fresh American cucumbers in 26 states and parts of Canada due to potential contamination with salmonella. The cucumbers were sold from Oct. 12 to Nov. 26 and distributed in bulk cardboard containers or generic white boxes with the SunFed label. The recall affects consumers in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, and other states, as well as in provinces of Canada. SunFed is working with authorities to investigate the cause of the contamination and advises consumers to check for recalled cucumbers and dispose of them. Earlier this year, salmonella infections were linked to recalled cucumbers in South Florida. The CDC estimates that salmonella causes about 1.35 million infections in the United States annually. Consumers are urged to be cautious and avoid consuming any recalled produce.
