Pope advocates for fair wages for migrants and cautions against dangers of AI during visit to Singapore | Religion News

Pope Francis wrapped up his Asia Pacific tour with a visit to Singapore, where he met with local officials and dignitaries. During his visit, the head of the Catholic Church warned about the negative impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) on society and emphasized the importance of fair wages for migrant workers.

Francis expressed concerns about technology isolating individuals and emphasized the need for AI to bring people together and promote understanding and solidarity. He also stressed the importance of not losing sight of human relationships in the era of AI. This is not the first time the pontiff has spoken out about this issue, as he previously called for a ban on lethal autonomous weapons.

In affluent Singapore, Francis spoke about the need to protect the dignity of migrant workers and ensure they receive fair wages. The pope’s remarks were welcomed by a Singapore NGO that supports migrant workers, as they highlighted the importance of fair treatment and protection against exploitation.

The pope’s visit to Singapore marked the final stop on his tour, which also included Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and East Timor. A large mass at Singapore’s National Stadium was expected to draw thousands of faithful followers from across the region. Francis is set to return to Rome on Friday to conclude his Asia Pacific journey.
