Police say Chicago teenager carried out a series of murders on the city’s south side, killing 6 people in 2020

Antonio Reyes, a 21-year-old man, was charged with six murders that occurred in 2020 when he was only 17. Prosecutors allege that Reyes went on a serial killing spree on Chicago’s southwest side. He pleaded not guilty to the charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder related to the cases from that year. Reyes was already in custody for another murder case from 2020.

Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke expressed sadness at the idea of a 17-year-old committing serial murders over nine months. Reyes was first arrested in December 2020 for the murder of Luis Davalos, who was found with a gunshot wound to the head in June 2020. Reyes allegedly shanked a fellow inmate while in jail awaiting trial for Davalos’ murder.

The new charges against Reyes include the alleged murders of a 31-year-old man in March 2020, a 21-year-old man in April 2020, a 16-year-old boy in May 2020, a 20-year-old man in November 2020, and another 31-year-old man in November 2020. Three attempted murder charges stem from the November 8, 2020 incident where a man was killed in front of his children.

Reyes is currently held without bail, and his attorney information is not immediately available. Doha Madani is a senior breaking news reporter for NBC News, with contributions from Ava Kelley and Toby Lyles.
