A manhunt is underway in Chicago following a drive-by shooting that injured seven teenagers early Saturday morning. The incident occurred as officers were attempting to disperse a large crowd in the city’s southeastern 6th District. According to the Chicago Police Department, an unknown vehicle approached and opened fire on the gathering, hitting multiple individuals.

The victims, three 17-year-olds, three 18-year-olds, and one 19-year-old, sustained various injuries primarily to their legs, along with two individuals struck in the arm, and one each in the back and buttocks. All were transported to nearby hospitals, with many listed in “fair condition,” although one victim, injured in the leg and chest, is in “serious” condition.

Authorities reported that the vehicle involved quickly fled the scene, and as of now, no suspects are in custody. Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

In a broader context, the Chicago police reported that there were 2,758 shooting victims in the city in 2024, a decrease of 4.1% from the previous year, highlighting ongoing challenges related to gun violence in the area.
