Police are searching for a second suspect in the murder case of a man who posed as a utility worker during a home invasion.

A man was caught posing as a utility worker to gain entry to a Michigan home and has been charged with murder and unlawful imprisonment. Carlos Jose Hernandez, 37, was arrested in Louisiana after a doorbell camera footage showed him and another man claiming to be from a local energy company. They tied up the wife and brutally attacked the husband, Hussein Murray, who was found dead in the basement. Murray’s family expressed their heartbreak over his death. Investigators believe the suspects may have targeted the couple due to knowledge of valuables in their possession. The suspects fled in a white pickup truck with a DTE Energy sign. The woman managed to call 911 after being duct-taped and hit by Hernandez. Prosecutors have authorized the highest charge of felony murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence without parole. DTE Energy warned residents against allowing imposters into their homes and urged them to ask for photo ID badges before allowing entry. Residents can also verify credentials by calling DTE directly. The second suspect in the attack remains unidentified, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the gruesome attack on the elderly couple in their home.
