Eagles Sign Former Alabama Running Back Keilan Robinson

The Philadelphia Eagles have bolstered their roster, adding running back Keilan Robinson via waiver claim after the Jacksonville Jaguars released him. Announced on Saturday, the claim marks another strategic move for Philadelphia, which is known for its connections to Alabama football.

Robinson, a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, had a challenging start to his NFL career. He spent the first 11 games on injured reserve due to a toe issue incurred during training camp. After recovering, he participated in the Jaguars’ last six games, primarily contributing on special teams.

The Jaguars opted to part ways with Robinson after selecting two running backs in the recent draft and retaining their key players, including Auburn’s Tank Bigsby and Travis Etienne. Prior to his time in Jacksonville, Robinson transitioned from Alabama to Texas, following offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.

At Alabama, he contributed during the 2019 season, amassing 254 rushing yards and two touchdowns, ranking third on a team led by stars Najee Harris and Brian Robinson Jr. Robinson later redshirted in 2020 and shifted to Texas, where he played a backup role for two seasons behind Bijan Robinson.

Over his three years at Texas, Robinson recorded 542 rushing yards, six touchdowns, and was active in the passing game, with 332 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Philadelphia now holds the record for the most former Alabama players in the NFL with a total of eight, including notable names like Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith. With Robinson added, the Eagles deepen their running back lineup to seven.

This acquisition reflects the Eagles’ strategy to blend talent and background, further solidifying their Alabama connection within the team.
