Former Alabama quarterback Paul Tyson, the great grandson of Bear Bryant, has returned to Clemson as a member of the coaching staff after a brief stint as a player-coach last season. Tyson suited up as the emergency quarterback for the Tigers during the 2023 season, completing 3-of-4 passes for 42 yards and a touchdown in two appearances. He previously played for Alabama and Arizona State before transferring to Clemson in December 2022.
Clemson’s quarterback position looks strong for the upcoming 2025 season, with Cade Klubnik returning after an impressive 2024 campaign. Klubnik passed for 3,639 yards, 36 touchdowns, and only six interceptions, while also showing his running abilities with 463 yards and seven touchdowns. Tyson, who served as Klubnik’s back-up at times last season, is now focused solely on coaching.
The Tigers are expected to build on their success from last season, with Klubnik leading the offense and Tyson providing coaching support. Tyson’s lineage as the great grandson of Bear Bryant adds to the intrigue of his role at Clemson, as he looks to make an impact on the team in a different capacity. With a strong quarterback duo and an experienced coaching staff, Clemson fans can look forward to another exciting season on the gridiron.
