Oweh Welcomes Former Rival Dioubate to Kentucky, Fans Excited for New Season
Lexington, KY – The Kentucky Wildcats’ roster just got a significant boost with the addition of Mouhamed Dioubate, formerly of the Alabama basketball program. Dioubate transferred to Kentucky following two seasons with the Crimson Tide, where he showcased his skills, notably during a matchup against the Wildcats.
Teammate Otega Oweh, who recently decided to return for another year at Kentucky despite declaring for the NBA Draft, reminisces about facing Dioubate during their college careers. "I know what he brings, and I didn’t like playing against him," Oweh recalled on Tuesday, pointing out that Dioubate’s competitive spirit could benefit the Wildcats significantly.
In their February clash, where the Wildcats fell to Alabama 96-83, Dioubate made his presence felt, even scoring only four points but celebrating with a "too small" gesture after completing a foul shot. This mentality is precisely what Oweh believes can galvanize both teammates and opponents alike in Lexington.
Last season, Dioubate averaged 7.2 points and 5.9 rebounds in 37 games, while playing an average of 16 minutes. His addition comes at a pivotal time for the Wildcats, who aim to build on their previous success after advancing to the Sweet Sixteen and finishing the year with a 24-12 record under coach Mark Pope.
With fans buzzing about the potential synergy between Oweh and Dioubate, the upcoming season promises to deliver excitement and competitive energy on the court. As Oweh noted, “I know he’s going to have that same effect on other people and other teams,” setting high expectations for the Wildcats and their new teammate.
