Alabama Baseball Triumphs Over Florida in Thrilling 9-6 Victory
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 18 Alabama baseball team showcased its resilience with a hard-fought 9-6 win against No. 23 Florida on Friday at Condron Ballpark. This victory elevates Alabama’s record to 40-14 and 16-13 in Southeastern Conference play.
Starting pitcher Riley Quick (8-2) initially faced challenges, allowing runs in both the first and second innings. However, the redshirt sophomore regained control, posting three consecutive scoreless innings while striking out seven over five innings. Braylon Myers followed with a stellar performance from the bullpen, retiring all six batters he faced in succession. Carson Ozmer closed the game with a rocky ninth inning, giving up four runs but ultimately securing the win.
Despite only recording six hits, Alabama capitalized on their scoring chances. A pivotal moment came in the fifth inning when Brady Neal hit a three-run double, highlighting a five-run surge. Richie Bonomolo Jr., although hitless, contributed with two RBIs, while Justin Lebron and Kade Snell each recorded an RBI.
Head Coach Rob Vaughn praised his team’s gritty performance, stating, "They just did what these kids do… Proud of their effort and looking forward to finishing up the regular season strong."
In a dramatic ninth inning, Florida attempted a comeback, scoring four runs, but Alabama held firm. The victory marked Alabama’s 40th win of the season, a notable achievement as it’s the first time the Tide has reached that figure since 2023.
Post-game highlights included Justin Lebron tying a program record for RBIs by a sophomore, and Brady Neal matching his career-high with three RBIs. Attendance for the game was recorded at 6,199.
The series concludes on Saturday, May 17, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. CT, airing on SEC Network+.
