Alabama Baseball Loses Series to Florida Despite Strong Start
TUSCALOOSA, AL—No. 18 Alabama baseball faced No. 23 Florida over the weekend, splitting the first two games before falling in the decisive matchup, resulting in a series loss. The Crimson Tide now holds a record of 40-15 overall and 16-14 in SEC play.
In the opening game, Alabama surged to a commanding 5-0 lead, thanks to Richie Bonomolo, Jr.’s two-run homer and Justin Lebron’s similar effort in the third. However, defensive lapses led to a dramatic turnaround as the Gators scored seven of the last eight runs, clinching a comeback victory at 7-6.
Game two saw Alabama rebound with a 9-6 win. A strong pitching performance from Riley Quick, who finished with five innings pitched and seven strikeouts, helped the Tide even the series. The offense capitalized on walks and errors, highlighted by Brady Neal’s base-clearing double in a five-run fifth inning. Notably, Bonomolo contributed two runs without a hit.
However, Alabama’s momentum faltered in the final game, where they fell 9-3. Florida took an early lead and increased their cushion with a five-run fifth inning, effectively sealing the win. Bryce Fowler was the bright spot for Alabama, notching two hits and an RBI, while Zane Adams took the loss after just 3.1 innings of work.
With this series now concluded, Alabama looks ahead to the SEC Tournament in Hoover, which commences on Tuesday. Fans are encouraged to stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter for the latest news and game recaps.
