NFL Insider: Teams Would ‘Definitely’ Consider Hiring Nick Saban

Nick Saban’s Potential NFL Comeback Sparks Speculation

NFL insider Albert Breer has ignited discussions surrounding the possibility of Nick Saban returning to the NFL, following commentary from former Alabama quarterback and ESPN analyst Greg McElroy. McElroy referenced a source suggesting that Saban’s coaching career might not be over, fueling speculation about his next move.

While Saban is often associated with college football, particularly his storied tenure at Alabama, the conversation is shifting toward a likely interest from NFL teams to hire him should he make himself available. Breer expressed this sentiment on The Dan Patrick Show, suggesting that if Saban were to re-enter the hiring pool, multiple teams would likely consider him for a head coaching position.

“While I don’t know his current appetite for coaching, I firmly believe there are teams that would target him this offseason,” Breer stated. He also mentioned Saban’s unresolved feelings about his past with the Miami Dolphins, where his tenure ended controversially nearly two decades ago. Notably, the Dolphins were on the brink of acquiring quarterback Drew Brees, but a controversial medical assessment derailed the deal. Brees went on to have a Hall of Fame career with the New Orleans Saints, while Saban faced criticism for his time in Miami, concluding in 2006 with a disappointing season.

Breer suggests that Saban may be motivated to seek closure and possibly redeem himself in the NFL. He stated, “If there’s a situation where he can win quickly, he might consider it,” emphasizing that the haunting medical decision regarding Brees often resurfaces in Saban’s discussions about the NFL.

Despite the buzz, Saban has not publicly commented on the matter. His daughter, however, has taken to social media to assert that he is finished with coaching.

As the NFL offseason approaches, all eyes will be on Saban’s next steps.
