Newly Launched Website featuring CHOOSE Act Qualifications and Application Information

Alabama families, schools, and education services providers now have more information available on how they can participate in the state’s new tax credit for education. The Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students’ Education Act, approved this year, provides up to $7,000 in tax credits for families to use on private school education or other education options. Home school families can receive up to $2,000 in credits per child, capped at $4,000 per family.

These credits will be in effect for the 2025-2026 school year and can be used on K-12 expenses, including school tuition, tutoring, and educational therapies, at approved Education Service Providers throughout the state. Eligibility and application information for schools and families is available at chooseact.alabama.gov.

Lawmakers have committed at least $100 million per year to the program, with eligibility in the first two years limited to students with special needs, children of active-duty service members, and those in households with incomes not exceeding 300% of the federal poverty level.

Governor Kay Ivey expressed her support for the CHOOSE Act, stating that every Alabama student should have access to a high-quality education that meets their needs. The family application process for the 2025-2026 school year will be open from January 2 to April 7, with award notifications sent out in early May.

This legislation was a priority for the GOP in the recent legislative session and aims to provide eligible families with assistance to positively impact their students’ academic future and the state’s overall educational landscape.
