State leaders and officials from the New England Institute of Technology came together on Wednesday to mark the grand opening of a cutting-edge welding training lab at the Post Road campus in Warwick. The lab, consisting of 15 booths, was unveiled with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, showcasing the state-of-the-art facility.
The new welding training lab was made possible through the funding and support of General Dynamics/Electric Boat and SENEDIA. The impact of this lab on the local workforce was highlighted by Gov. Dan McKee, who emphasized the importance of training welders to meet the growing demand in various industries. McKee expressed his excitement for the opportunities the lab will provide for skilled tradespeople and the long-term benefits it will bring to the community.
New England Tech has already trained 1,600 welders and anticipates that the new lab will allow them to train an additional 600 new hires annually. This increase in capacity will not only help meet the needs of the workforce but also contribute to the continued success of the welding industry in the region.
The collaboration between state leaders, industry partners, and educational institutions showcases a commitment to supporting workforce development and economic growth. The investment in the new welding training lab demonstrates a strategic effort to prepare individuals for high-paying jobs and ensure the sustainability of the skilled trades sector for years to come.
