Former March Madness hero and Northern Iowa player Ali Farokmanesh has been promoted to head coach at Colorado State. Farokmanesh, known for his memorable late-game heroics in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, has been an assistant coach at Colorado State before getting the top job.
In 2010, Farokmanesh helped lead Northern Iowa to the Sweet 16 with a memorable upset over No. 1 seed Kansas thanks to his late 3-pointer. After his college playing days, Farokmanesh played professionally overseas before transitioning to college coaching.
Starting as a graduate assistant at Nebraska, Farokmanesh worked his way up to assistant coaching positions at Drake and Colorado State. Now, he will look to lead Colorado State back to the NCAA Tournament after a strong season in which they narrowly missed out on a Sweet 16 appearance.
Farokmanesh takes over for Niko Medved, who recently left Colorado State for a coaching position at Minnesota. Fans and analysts alike are excited to see how Farokmanesh will continue to build on his NCAA Tournament legacy in his new role as head coach at Colorado State.
