Extensive testing revealed that the specific re-entry method caused the shield to erode, prompting engineers to make adjustments for future missions.
Despite the delays, the Artemis program is expected to continue under the new administration, with NASA emphasizing the safety of astronauts as a top priority. With over $42 billion already invested in developing the Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft, NASA envisions regular missions to establish a base camp on the moon before exploring Mars.
The revised timeline for Artemis missions aims to keep the U.S. ahead of China in lunar exploration, highlighting concerns about competition over lunar resources.
