Montana Fouts Leads Talons to Inaugural AUSL Championship
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In a stunning display of skill and perseverance, Alabama alum and four-time All-American Montana Fouts clinched the inaugural Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) Championship on Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium. Fouts threw a complete game shutout, leading the Talons to a nail-biting 1-0 victory over the Bandits in the decisive game of their best-of-three championship series.
Beneath the watchful eyes of a sellout crowd at Rhoads Stadium, Fouts showcased her elite pitching prowess by striking out seven batters, solidifying the Talons’ championship win after previously securing a 3-1 victory in game one on Saturday. This match marked Fouts’ emotional return to the field where she starred during her collegiate career from 2019 to 2023, and the atmosphere was electric as fans celebrated her remarkable journey.
Fouts made her mark at Alabama by not only collecting 100 career wins but also leading the Crimson Tide to significant accomplishments, including the 2019 SEC regular season title, a 2021 SEC Tournament championship, and three Women’s College World Series appearances. Her talent earned her numerous accolades, including the 2019 SEC Freshman of the Year, the 2021 SEC and NFCA Pitcher of the Year, and the 2023 Softball America Pitcher of the Year. In a historic achievement, Fouts became the first Alabama softball athlete to receive the prestigious Honda Sport Award in 2023.
