In a close and back-and-forth game, the Alabama Crimson Tide softball team faced a tough loss against the Mississippi State Bulldogs with a score of 4-3. Alabama initially took the lead in the first inning, but defensive mistakes allowed Mississippi State to score three runs in the third inning. The Crimson Tide quickly answered back with a two-run double from Brooke Ellestad to tie the game. However, an RBI single from Nadia Barbary in the sixth inning gave the Bulldogs the lead again, ultimately leading to Alabama’s defeat.
Despite the loss, there were some standout performances from players like Alexis Pupillo and Kali Hevilin, who each had two hits in the game. Heivilin also extended her hitting streak to seven games. Brooke Ellestad had two RBIs, bringing her total to nine multi-RBI games this season. Audrey Vandagriff extended her reached base streak to 18 games.
Alabama now has a 70-13 all-time record against Mississippi State, including a 35-5 mark in Tuscaloosa. The team’s next game will be against #10/10 Florida State on Wednesday, March 19th at 6 p.m. CT.
Head coach Patrick Murphy expressed disappointment in the team’s performance, citing defensive errors and walks given up as key factors in the loss. Despite the setback, the Crimson Tide will look to bounce back in their upcoming game.
