Minor Tremor Shakes Lincoln County, Just North of Huntsville

Minor Earthquake Strikes Park City, Tennessee

PARK CITY, Tennessee — A minor earthquake measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale shook Park City, Tennessee, on Saturday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The tremor was recorded at 7:10 p.m. at a shallow depth of approximately 1.7 miles, with its epicenter located just 2 miles from Park City, about 20 miles north of Huntsville.

Fortunately, no injuries or damage have been reported following the quake. Earthquakes of this magnitude typically result in minimal noticeable shaking, although residents near the epicenter may have experienced slight tremors.

This minor event is part of a pattern in the region, where small quakes are relatively common, particularly along minor fault zones in the Appalachian Valley. The state has seen several light tremors in recent days, including a 2.1-magnitude quake near Hopewell located further east.

The USGS classified Saturday’s event as "reviewed," confirming that experts have verified the initial estimates of its magnitude and location. Such small quakes usually do not raise concerns among local residents but serve as a reminder of the geological activity in the area.

As seismologists continue to monitor the region, local authorities encourage residents to stay informed about seismic activity while assuring them that the risk of significant earthquakes remains low.
