Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, are recovering after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds during a home invasion early Saturday morning in Champlin. John’s family reported that he was struck by nine bullets and Yvette by eight, narrowly escaping life-threatening injuries. Sen. Amy Klobuchar shared the family’s update on social media, providing a glimmer of hope as John undergoes several surgeries, stating, “We are incredibly lucky to be alive.”
The attack occurred when gunman Vance Boelter invaded the Hoffmans’ home, posing as a police officer. Tragically, the suspect later targeted state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, killing both in their Brooklyn Park home. As the chaos unfolded, Yvette shielded their daughter, Hope, from the gunfire.
While the couple continues their road to recovery, relatives have expressed gratitude for the outpouring of community support but mourn the loss of their friends. “There is never a place for this kind of political hate,” Yvette noted in her message shared by Klobuchar.
The Parent Teacher Organization of Fernbrook Elementary School, where Yvette works, has initiated fundraising efforts to support the family during this challenging time. Principal Jeff Zastrow praised Yvette’s significant contributions to the community, highlighting her dedication and compassion.
