Millsboro Lions Club Celebrates 85 Years of Community Service
Millsboro, DE – The Millsboro Lions Club is celebrating 85 years of steadfast commitment to community service. Since its inception in 1940, the nonprofit organization has been a cornerstone of support and leadership in the Millsboro area, contributing to various initiatives such as eyeglass and hearing aid services, youth scholarships, town beautification projects, and the much-loved oyster fritter shack.
In recognition of its longstanding contributions, the Millsboro Lions Club received a special commendation from the Town of Millsboro. During the celebration, Mayor Kimberley Kaan highlighted the club’s enduring presence in the community, stating, “The Lions Club continues to be a pillar of the community — embodying the Lions motto ‘We serve’ and making Millsboro a better place to live for all residents.” The mayor expressed gratitude toward the members, both past and present, for their unwavering dedication.
Club President Pat Sanzone underscored the impact of their service by recounting a recent project where the Lions helped a young man facing serious eye problems. Although the individual qualified for a specialized surgery crucial to preventing blindness, his health insurance wouldn’t cover the procedure. The Millsboro Lions stepped in, securing a grant from the Lions Eye Foundation and covering the remaining costs. Thanks to their assistance, the young man now enjoys 20/25 vision.
The Millsboro Lions Club continually invites community members to join their efforts in enhancing the quality of life for residents through local service projects.
